~ Hoi An to Hue ~

Okay, you absolutely cannot just get the bus from Hoi An to Hue. You will miss the beauty that is the Hai Van Pass. While you’re in Hoi An, if you don’t already know how to ride a scooter, hire a scooter and give yourself some practice. This is because you absolutely have to ride the Hoi An to Hue trip! The scenery and attractions on the way are super beautiful. The trip is also easy for a beginner, nothing too challenging, and if you’re less confident just take it slower. If you are really worried about riding, you can take an ‘easy rider‘ and sit on the back of a guides bike.

Note: I’d strongly suggest getting yourself some sort of local sim whether data or otherwise (unless obviously you are roaming) in case of emergency. However there are plenty of people doing this trip daily, so if you run into trouble you wont find yourself alone.

How to book!

I booked the trip through ‘MotorVina‘ (at the office in Hoi An) which seemed to be cheaper than most other Hoi An to Hue motorbike hire companies. We rode without a tour guide (definitely the way to do it, its pretty simple to get there if you follow the map) and it is much cheaper. A lot of people think that you get to visit more ‘unseen’ places with a guide, however generally you’re just stopping at the same places shown on the free map you get from MotorVina such as Marble Mountain, the Hai Van Pass and Elephant Springs. A simple google search comes up with the same locations to stop at on the way. MotorVina like most companies, takes your backpack to your next location (Hue for us) so you don’t have to ride with it, which is super convenient if your bag is as big as mine.

From memory it costs us 400,000DONG + petrol and was well worth it, one of the most amazing experiences. Also if you don’t have someone to ride with it is still worth doing yourself. Obviously if you have done the whole of Vietnam by bike I’m sure you would say there are many, possibly more beautiful rides throughout Vietnam, but I really enjoyed this one.

If these pictures don’t convince you, than I don’t know what will!
